Tibet Burning at Rutgers

Exactly one year after they were taken, the photos of “Tattoos of Tibetan Refugees and Ex-Political Prisoners’ will be shown at Rutgers University in Newark, NJ.

The show is being hosted by The Center for the Study of Genocide, Conflict Resolution, and Human Rights with which Built on Respect has a professional fellowship.

Since last year, the situation in Tibet has deteriorated even further. In 2009 I had experienced the candlelight vigils for Tapey, one of the first young monks to self-immolate.

As I write this today, the number has swelled to 23, from all provinces.  On March 8th, 2012, the Center will host a combined event, from 4-7 p.m.

Jigme Ugen will present Tibet Burning.  Jigme, a respected Tibetan activist, has presented at Stanford, UC Davis, Berkeley, Portland, and Harvard within the last few months on this topic.

One video interview from Minx’s series will conclude this presentation, then there will be a Q&A.  The gallery exhibit opening will begin at 6 p.m.
